Dusan Alexander Koso

Lead Designer for Lunar Module Optics

Dusan Alexander "Alex" Koso fled Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia) with his family in 1944, at the age of 9. He moved to the United States in 1952, learned English and attended high school. He received a bachelor's degree in 1957 and a master's degree in 1959; both from MIT and both in electrical engineering. He joined the Instrumentation Lab (now Draper) soon after, and worked on midcourse navigation as well as the Command Module optics system with Philip Bowditch.

In 1963, Koso became the Assistant Director of the lab, and he led the design for the Lunar Module’s optical system. Koso stayed on through the IL’s transformation to Draper, and then went on to start his own company, I-Systems.
